KCPD investigates homicide on Newton Avenue

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman died Friday evening in an apartment in the 9400 block of Newton Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.

Officers responding to a disturbance call at that location found the woman unresponsive around 6:20 p.m.

Emergency responders declared the woman, who had been stabbed, dead from her injuries. No official cause of death has been determined, according to KCPD.

A man was taken into custody at the scene. He is considered a person of interest in a homicide investigation, according to KCPD.

Detectives are not searching for additional suspects, but anyone who heard or saw anything around the time and in the area of the incident is asked to call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or the KCPD Homicide Unit at 816-234,5043.

This is the 16th homicide in KCMO so far in 2021, which is identical to 2017 and 2019 where the year finished with 151 murders.

There were 19 murders through the morning of Feb. 12, 2020, which finished with a record 176 homicides.
