UPDATE | A male subject came out of the building shortly after 11:00 p.m. Officers took him into custody.

Several people were evacuated from a Kansas City, Missouri, apartment complex Saturday night as officers were involved in a standoff with an armed, barricaded subject.

Officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. to the area of East 12th Street and Benton Boulevard on a reported cutting, where police said a victim suffering from "apparent injuries" was located and transported to an area hospital. The victim is in stable condition, according to a KCPD spokesperson.

Officers then responded to an apartment complex in the 3200 block of East 13th Street on a second reported cutting. While at that scene, officers were told that the subject of interest in the earlier aggravated assault was "believed to be inside the apartment building," the spokesperson said.

At that time, a standoff was initiated, and negotiators are attempting to contact the subject, police said.

As of 9 p.m., officers and negotiators still were on scene.
