LAWRENCE, Kan. — Police held a briefing Monday to give an update on the conditions of the two Topeka men wounded in Sunday’s shooting.
One remains hospitalized in stable condition. The other has been treated and released.
This update came down as detectives are working to track down leads in the triple homicide.
New video 41 Action News obtained shows the chaos following Sunday morning’s shooting in downtown Lawrence.
As paramedics tended to victims, dozens of shell casings littered the sidewalk.
The gunfire claimed the lives of Leah Brown, 22, from Shawnee and Colwin Henderson, 20, and Tre’Mel Dean, 24, from Topeka.
“We don’t believe this was a random act of violence. In fact we believe this stemmed from a physical altercation just before,” Captain Anthony Brixius with Lawrence Police said.
Witnesses we spoke with said that a fight began outside of Brothers bar and grill.
“They were just like, ‘Where so and so? Where’s he at?’ And they’re looking around and I looked over and I was, ‘Did you hear that?’ My friend was like, ‘Yes,’ so we started walking, he goes right there,” said a witness who didn’t want to be identified because the suspects haven’t been caught.
The witness heard at least 10 shots before ducking for cover.
“I was on my stomach right here and I was watching it and someone ran across. As he’s running across he was getting hit and he fell right over there, right across the street,” he said.
