Man charged for hitting state trooper's vehicle during police chase

Shaun Howard, the suspect accused of crashing into a Missouri State Trooper's vehicle during a police chase in Clay County, Missouri, has been charged.

Howard is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. 

Officials say the crash happened around 1 p.m. Friday. near Highway 152 and North Church Road. 

Police say they were looking for a vehicle connected to some thefts at a Walmart in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Officials ran the suspect's vehicle's plates, which came back as stolen. 

Officials say the suspect then led them on a chase for two miles. A trooper was getting in position to assist on Highway 152 just west of I-35 when his vehicle was hit.

He was transported to Liberty Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Howard is being held on a $50,000 bond.
