A Raytown man has been charged with DWI in connection with a deadly crash on Interstate 435.
Terry Jones, 34, is charged with DWI, a class B felony because it resulted in the death of someone who was not a passenger in the vehicle he operated.
On Wednesday, Kansas City police responded to I-435 and Oldham Road on a multi-vehicle crash. Police determined a Dodge truck was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control, crossed over the center median and entered southbound traffic lanes, according to court documents. At least eight vehicles were involved in the crash and a driver of one vehicle, Hawa A. Mohamud, died.
A DUI officer responding to the scene detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Jones's breath. Jones's eyes appeared to be glassy and he was mumbling, according to court documents.
Jones refused to submit to a test of his blood, but a search warrant was obtained and his blood was taken for analysis.
The defendant previously was convicted of DWI in Jackson County, according to the news release.
