KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A 40-year-old Kansas City man is facing charges for threatening to “shoot up” his child’s elementary school.

Prosecutors Friday charged Samnang Duong with one felony count of making a terrorist threat.

On Jan. 19, police were dispatched to Whittier Elementary School at 1012 Bales Avenue after school staff called to report a man threatening to shoot the whole school up.

Court documents indicate the incident started when Duong questioned which staff member called the Missouri Department of Family Services in regards to his step-son.

In an police interview with one of the staff members, the staffer said that Duong told them, “If I find out who hot-lined my family, I will come up to the school shooting.”

Police located Duong after a traffic stop on Thursday.

During questioning with investigators, Duong said there had been several incidents he thought were handled poorly at the school, including the one on Jan. 19.

Duong admitted that he was upset in the meeting but denied making any threats.
