KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The woman who admitted to intentionally driving into the Kansas River with her two children in the car was deemed competent to stand trial Tuesday.
Scharron R. Dingledine, 26, of Columbia, Missouri, is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Her 5-year-old daughter, Amiyah Bradley, was killed and her 1-year-old son was seriously injured.
She confessed to Lawrence police that she intentionally drove her car into the water in an attempt to kill herself on August 4. She told investigators that she had been involved in several verbal and physical domestic incidents with her boyfriend days before the incident.
Experts at Bert Nash Community Health Center examined Dingledine and determined she was competent to stand trial.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for October 2.
