KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 41-year-old woman is charged in Platte County after allegedly pulling a gun Tuesday morning on two Kansas City, Missouri, police officers.

Zina Sokoli was charged with first-degree aggravated assault on a special victim, according to KCPD.

One officer shot Sokoli. She suffered a minor wound; she was treated and released Tuesday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident.

KCPD responded to a call around 10 a.m. in the area of N. Ambassador Drive and NW Polo Drive.

MSHP spokesman Sgt. Andy Bell said the call was made by the petitioner of an ex parte protection order who was concerned about Sokoli and wanted police to make contact with her.

As the two officers were pulling up to Ambassador by Polo, they observed Sokoli walking along the road.

The officers attempted to make contact but Sokoli was not compliant.

She was said to be armed with a handgun she presented to officers before one officer fired Sokoli, per Bell.

Bell said "things escalate quickly" in such situations and that resolution could be reached through "speaking and listening" in a "perfect world."
