Man dies after officer-involved shooting in KCK

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kansas City, Kansas police have identified the man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday, May 2. 

KCK police said members of the Violent Crimes Task Force were conducting a narcotics investigation in the 2400 block of Wood Avenue. While they were attempting to make an arrest, officers were confronted by an armed suspect, identified as Manuel Palacio, 27. 

KCK police said during the confrontation, Palacio was shot and killed. 

41 Action News reported Palacio's ID in the shooting Thursday. 41 Action News Investigators discovered several Facebook posts, including one on April 27 when he wrote, "I'll die before I go back to jail."

Palacio had previously sued the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department for excessive force in connection with a 2014 arrest. The case was settled for $300,000. 

Wednesday's shooting came on the four-year anniversary of the 2014 arrest.

Police said the officer involved is a 21-year veteran of the department. he has been placed on administrative leave.
