KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Less than 40 minutes. That's how long it took two thieves to steal $3,500 worth of tires from a Gladstone business early Sunday morning.
And their theft was caught all on camera.
"I couldn't believe somebody would do something like that," said Rick Sims, who owns GRC of KC Auto and Truck Sales.
Sims told 41 Action News he received a phone call from his father early Sunday morning telling him his Jeep — displayed prominently in front of his car lot — was now lying on a rock and spare tire. Sims immediately reviewed his surveillance camera video and watched as two thieves stole all four of the car's tires.
"Every time a car would come by they would duck down real low and run off behind [a] white van," he said. "They were here for quite some time, in the rain at that."
But the thieves did not take or attempt to take anything besides the wheels. When they were done, they moved a spare tire and a rock underneath the car.
"Everybody wants tires and wheels and they are very expensive for us to buy and very easy for them to sell cheap," Sims said. "Put it on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and sell it real fast to make quick money on it."
41 Action News checked several Kansas City-area marketplace sites but did not find the stolen tires.
Anyone with information on this theft is asked to call the Gladstone Police.
