LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – UPDATE 10/4, 3:30 p.m.: Lee's Summit police have arrested a suspect in Wednesday afternoon's hit and run near Northeast Lakewood Way.
Police thanked the public for the information and tips they received in regards to the case, and said in a news releases that the information helped them locate the vehicle and suspect.
The suspect remains in custody as prosecutors review the case and consider which charges to file.
ORIGINAL: Lee's Summit police are looking for a 2004-2012 Ford E-Series van after a woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash near Northeast Lakewood Way, south of Highway 40.
It happened Wednesday morning, sometime between 6:50 a.m. and 7:20 a.m.
Lee’s Summit police said the woman was walking alongside the road when she was hit by a vehicle traveling south.
The force of the impact threw her to the shoulder of the road, where she was later found by another driver and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper.
Police said the victim was wearing a bright, lime green shirt and frequently walked along the road, meaning anyone who drives along Lakewood Way routinely may have seen her walking before.
Investigators used a broken headlight and its fragments found on the scene to identify the make and model of the vehicle, though they said this is a common van and they don't have any information regarding the exact series or color.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she remains seriously hurt as of Wednesday afternoon.
