KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, added one final homicide to its record-setting 2020 total late on New Year's Eve.

A woman, who was identified Monday as 27-year-old Chayne Pearl, was stabbed shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday night near Interstate 435 and Truman Road.

She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where she died Friday morning from her injuries. Police initially indicated the death would be recorded as the first homicide of 2021 because she died on New Year's Day, but a spokeperson said that decision has changed.

“Officers located a crime scene at that location on Truman (Road) and Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene at that time last night,” KCPD Sgt. Jake Becchina, a department spokesperson, said in an email Friday morning.

After conferring with KCPD information services and state reporting personnel, KCPD said the homicide will be counted on the 2020 tally since the incident happened before midnight.

There is no suspect information at the time.

KCPD asks anyone with information on the killing or who may have seen something in that area Thursday night to call the KCPD Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest.
