If your New Year's resolution is to get in shape, you can do so without spending money on a big gym membership.

There are some low cost alternatives to the long-term agreements.

Hospitals offer wellness programs that can range in price.

"Hospitals are one of the best places to come to get in shape," said Carrie Camin. She's the Vice President of wellness at Methodist Health System. "One thing that's great about a hospital is it's not going to be super crowded. You're going to pay a lot less for your membership. There's no long-term contracts or initiation fees we also have health support staff on site if anything goes wrong."

Your city's recreation center is another place to try. Some offer classes and specialized sessions without a long term contract. But it's not just about cost. Gyms like these can also offer a more relaxed atmosphere.

"You don't have to dress up. You don't have to put make up on. You don't have to get in shape to come in and work out at our facility."
