KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A teenage driver died in a three-vehicle crash near U.S. 40 and South Brentwood Avenue on Thursday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri.

The crash happened around 3:20 p.m. when an eastbound GMC pickup on U.S. 40 clipped a Nissan crossover from behind. The Nissan was stopped in the center turn lane.

The initial wreck's impact redirected the GMC into the westbound lanes, where it was involved in a head-on collision with a Chevrolet SUV.

The driver of the GMC, an 18-year-old KCMO man, died at the scene.

The adult woman who was driving the Nissan, the adult driving the Chevy and an adult female passenger in the Chevy were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fatality was the 79th on KCMO's roads in 2020. The city's 80th traffic death happened only a few minutes later 2.5 miles away near East 59th Street and Noland Road.
