KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died Monday in a single-vehicle crash in south Kansas City, Missouri.

According to information from KCPD, a “single-unit tank truck” was traveling northbound shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Lee’s Summit Road just north of Woods Chapel Road.

The vehicle left the road on the left side and struck a tree.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, where the person died from injuries sustained in the crash.

This is the sixth vehicle fatality in KCMO in 2021.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, so it's unclear if the weather played a role in the fatality.

However, the National Weather Service has the Kansas City region under a Winter Weather Advisory until 9 p.m. on Monday night.

Frigid temperatures combined with the snowpack from the weekend as well as additional snow and freezing drizzle Monday has made road conditions treacherous.

The extreme cold temperatures also make treatment of roads ineffective with no relief in sight as an Arctic Blast has settled over the upper Midwest, preventing the snow and ice from melting soon.
