KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man's body was found Monday in a car west of Interstate 435 in south Kansas City, Missouri.
The crash site was discovered by a Missouri Department of Transportation maintenance crew just before 11 a.m. in an area north of the East 87th Street exit on I-435 southbound, according to KCPD.
"The area where the vehicle came to rest is low-lying and runs considerably below the grade of the roadway surface, obscuring it from the view of passing motorists," according to a statement from KCPD
Accident investigators said a Chevrolet Impala left the right-hand side of the road and crashed into a heavily wooded creek bed.
The exact time of the accident is undetermined and remains under investigation, but the vehicle appears "to have been there for some time prior," according to KCPD's Accident Investigation Section.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
