1 man dies, 1 critically injured in crash Monday near KCI

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — UPDATE 4/20, 4:45 p.m. | The driver killed has been identified as Trever Sluder.

ORIGINAL | Two people were critically injured in a crash Monday night after being trapped in a vehicle.

One of those two people, a 22-year-old Platte City man, subsequently died, the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department announced Thursday.

The crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Northwest Prairie View Road near Mexico City Avenue.

Firefighters had to cut two people from one of the vehicles.

An investigation determined that the victim was driving a Hyundai sedan eastbound when it was struck by a westbound Ford SUV that crossed the center line.

The driver of the Ford, a 42-year-old Platte City man, remains hospitalized in serious condition, while the SUV's passenger, a 38-year-old Platte City woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
