KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Another class of minority and women-owned businesses has graduated from the KC Strategic Partnership Program, a master of business administration-style crash course put on by members of the Edgemoor team.

During the six-month program, Clark Weitz Clarkson teaches small firms about topics such as accounting and financial reporting, bonding, and insurance and project management.

It's free professional development for businesses hoping to work on big projects like the new terminal at Kansas City International Airport.

Daniel Felder, who owns Axiom Construction Group, was one of the 25 participants honored at a graduation ceremony at Grand Street Cafe on Thursday.

"Oftentimes in construction, going out and doing the work, that's not our biggest issue. It's the back office stuff," he said. "It's the accounting principles, it's the bookkeeping, those different principles that Edgemoor brought at a very high level that allows us to be successful."

This was the second group of graduates for the program, which will accept applications for the next round over the summer.

Edgemoor and CWC have committed to offer the course until all qualified applicants have a chance to participate.
