KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A second teenager involved in a two-vehicle crash last week in Independence has died, police said.

The crash occurred on Wednesday evening when a driver traveling southbound on Little Blue Parkway crossed over into the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle south of Truman Road.

The 17-year-old driver of the car that was struck by the wrong-way vehicle died at the hospital after the crash. On Tuesday, police said another 17-year-old passenger in that vehicle had succumbed to his injuries.

Police said they do not plan to release his name publicly because he is a juvenile.

The other injured passengers in the car that was struck had significant injuries but remain in stable condition, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. Police said last week that alcohol appears to be a factor and that no one involved was wearing a seat belt.

Police said the case will be referred to prosecutors for review once the investigation is complete.
