KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In just the first month, newly-minted Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly has changed the tenor of politics in the state’s capital.

Despite changing the culture, Kelly is still facing the same issues as her predecessors.

In this week’s edition of the 41 Files Kansas City podcast, reporter Tom Dempsey shares his exclusive one-on-one interview with Kelly, where they talked about the benefits of her legislative experience, education funding, Medicaid expansion and crafting a budget.

Later in the podcast, reporter Steven Dial recaps his recent story outlining the efforts among Kansas legislators to bring a version of gambling on sports to Kansas. A committee met Tuesday in Topeka to receive testimony from sports leagues and gaming interests in Kansas and across the country to debate what legal sports betting will look like in Kansas.

Finally, host Taylor Hemness discusses the pros – and cons – of driving to work at 4 a.m. with a broken tail light.

The 41 Files Kansas City podcast comes out every Wednesday and covers issues in and around Kansas City. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts , Stitcher , Castbox , Spotifyor where ever you get your podcasts.
