It’s been seven years since the Roth family saw their family cat, Sky. She vanished in Naples, Fla. and was reunited with the Roth family at Kansas City’s International Airport Saturday afternoon.

“We never thought we would see her again,” said Amber Roth.

Sky disappeared when the family lived in Florida; they have since moved here to Kansas City. Others stepped in to help fly the cat to Kansas City.

”It’s a wonderful Christmas miracle and I could never thank all of you, there is not enough thanks,” said Roth.

Sky was found because she was microchipped. That's when a microchip containing information on how to contact the pet's owner is implanted into an animal.

“It’s really sad when we don’t have any way to know if they're a stray because they were dumped off on the side of the road or because someone is out there looking and they just got lost from their home,” said Casey Waugh, the communications manager at Wayside Waifs.

According to a study from the American Veterinary Medical Association, dogs have a 52% increased chance of finding their owners if they have a microchip, for cats its 38%.

“It’s extremely important as soon as you bring an angel baby home you need to have them microchipped and make sure you keep that microchip updated with your information,” said Roth.

Pets can be microchipped at Wayside Waifs for $25.
