Earlier this month Stuart Stroud watched as crews repaired a water main break in front of his Independence home near the corner of U.S. Highway 24 and Overton Street.
Instead of immediately repaving the sidewalk, Stroud says crews placed gravel on the end of it.

"My concern is for the people that have to use the sidewalk,” he told 41 Action News, after reaching out for help. "I’ve seen handicapped people come down the sidewalk either in a wheelchair or on those little carts and they have to go clear out into the street."
"That’s nothing but a safety hazard. That’s going to get someone killed,” he added.
41 Action News contacted the City of Independence to find out who was responsible for the earlier work. Less than an hour later, the city’s Water Department was on scene measuring the sidewalk.
According to crews, this corner was on their list of projects to complete.
