PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — In an 11-2 vote, the Prairie Village city council passed new neighborhood design standards Monday night.

Mayor Laura Wassmer said the council considered and discussed the new ordinance for four years.

The new standards mandate:

  • garage height limit of 8’2”
  • impervious coverage limit of 40 percent
  • minimum 30’ set back
  • windows and doors on 15 percent of all front and rear facades
  • limit of 2 garage bays

The new guidelines apply to any new home build, construction that alters the form or front elevation, and any renovation that adds 200 square feet or more.

The new standards go into effect Feb. 1, 2019.
