AMC Theaters is testing a new service at four locations in the KC metro area.
The service allows customers to preorder and prepay for their food, all from their smartphones.
The goal of the service is to eliminate the “popcorn pinch point,” what most customers think of as the long lines for concession.
Customers would download an app, order and pay for their food, and once they arrive to the theater the food is available for pickup.
AMC told 41 Action News so far they’ve received positive feedback about the service.
However, due to the crowds expected at theaters on opening night of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the service will not be available on Thursday.
It will become available again on Friday and moving forward into the new year.
AMC said the service will be expanded to other cities in January and hopes for it to be available nationwide soon after.
You can test out the service in the KC area at the following locations:
- AMC Town Center 20 (Leawood)
- AMC Ward Parkway 14 (KCMO)
- AMC Studio 28 (Olathe)
- AMC Barry Woods 24 (KCMO)
Theaters said they will also increase security for safety measures on Thursday night.
