KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An apparent sinkhole near East 43rd Street and Prospect Avenue temporarily shut down the roadway Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.
Heather Frierson, a spokeswoman for KC Water, said the 3-by-5-foot hole closed down 43rd Street from Prospect Avenue to Montgall Avenue until 3 p.m.
Kansas City, Missouri, police notified 311 about the sinkhole around 12:40 p.m.
A 6-inch sewage pipe was underneath the hole when it opened, Frierson said.
A steel plate has been placed over the hole until repairs can be made.
