Three people have been charged after an alleged shoplifting incident where a 4-month-old was injured after falling out of a car fleeing the scene.
Tashay Horton, 20, and La’Ion Carter, 18, are charged with misdemeanor stealing. Terry Horton, 17, is charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the probable cause statement, officers were called to Northeast Chouteau Trafficway in regard to an ambulance in route due to a baby falling out of a stealing suspect’s vehicle. When officers arrived they found EMS holding a 4-month-old child who had several abrasions and scratches on her head. According to court documents, the child was transported to the hospital for treatment for a small subarachnoid hemorrhage. The child is in serious condition.
A witness told police they saw Tashay Horton and Carter enter the Target store at 11 a.m., according to court documents. They said they saw the two exiting the store at 11:30 a.m. with several items of clothing, $233.45 total value, without purchasing the items. The probable cause statement says they told police they saw the vehicle drive off and the right rear door opened. Tashay Horton fell out with the store merchandise and the 4-month-old child.
According to court documents, a witness told police they were in the parking lot and saw Tashay Horton fleeing the parking lot with the child in her arms. The witness restrained Tashay Horton until police arrived at the scene.
According to court documents, Carter was taken into custody and admitted to stealing items from Target. Tashay Horton was also taken into custody and admitted to stealing merchandise from Target and being aware of the child not being properly secured in the car seat.
Terry Horton was taken into custody. Court documents say he admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and knowing Carter and Tashay Horton were going to steal from Target before they entered the store. He admitted to failing to properly secure the 4-month-old child before leaving the Target parking lot. According to court documents, he admitted to leaving the parking lot between 20 and 25 miles per hour.
Terry Horton’s bond is set at $20,000. Tashay Horton’s bond is set at $10,000. Carter’s bond is set at $5,000.
