It may be just shy of 90 degrees in Shawnee, but Splash Cove was full of youngsters trying to beat the heat on Thursday.

Kids were seen playing, going down slides, swimming and waiting for a giant water bucket to fall down on their heads.

It’s a great option for kids, but many of us have to work or have other obligations and can’t spend a day at the pool.

Whether you are a window washer, a construction worker or running errands around town, you want to try and stay as cool as possible in the heat.

Ways to stay cool

- Wear loose, light-colored clothing

- Seek shade

- Stay inside when it's the hottest out.

Some people 41 Action News caught up with were happy to get on the bus to get out of the heat.

"Ozone Alert Day, you don't have to pay that much to get on the bus. That's helping out a lot," said Daniel Estell, who was jumping on a bus with his family.
