On National Ice Cream Day 2017, Betty Rae’s introduced a new sweet and savory burnt ends flavor.

Owner of Betty Rae’s David Friesen has been trying to perfect a burnt end ice cream flavor for almost three years.

“I wanted to do something that really reflected the character of Kansas City and something that makes the city unique,” he said.

The ice cream uses burnt ends from Joe’s Kansas City. The ice cream is a sweet, neutral-based cream, barbeque infuse caramel and burnt ends candied in brown sugar.

Friesen said the flavor will be out for a month and depending on its popularity, it could become a regular flavor.
