For a buyer in the market for a piece of America's racial legacy, United Gun Group has an item that might be of interest. Titled "George Zimmerman's Gun used 2/26/12," the Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm is listed with a starting price of $100,000.
By the afternoon of May 17, there were 44 bids--bringing to price up to $104,500. You can "buy it now" for $500,000.
Zimmerman was working with a volunteer neighborhood watch in Florida when he says he was attacked by the unarmed, 17-year-old Martin, and fired in self-defense. He was acquitted of criminal charges in the case, which raised a firestorm of debate over race relations in the United States.
United Gun Group posted the gun after a different online gun auction site, GunBroker.com, pulled it down. GunBroker.com issued a statement Thursday afternoon saying it reserves the right to reject listings, and has done so with Zimmerman's.
Blue Springs-based United Gun Group is taking a different approach.
"We are not going to dictate morality to our individuals," owner Todd Underwood told CNN.
Underwood said as long as his site's members engage in activities that comply with the Constitution and the law, the site won't interfere.
