UPDATE, NOVEMBER 18 | Due to maintenance issues, the Blue Angels had to postpone their visit to New Century Air Center for Wednesday afternoon. There is no word yet on a new date and time.

ORIGINAL STORY | An F/A-18 with the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels will perform a “carrier break” Wednesday afternoon over the skies in southern Johnson County.

The visit by the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron jet fighter, Blue Angel #7, is part of the buildup to the 2021 KC Air Show presented by Garmin, which will take place July 3-4, 2021, at New Century AirCenter just north of Gardner.

Two of the Blue Angels’ F/A-18 fighter pilots will speak with reporters around 1:15 p.m. during a briefing after the precision low-level approach used to time a squadron’s landing on an ocean-bound aircraft carrier.

The meeting also will provide Blue Angels staff the chance to review operational plans, tour the airport and plan other logistics for the summer show.
