KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The body of a 13-year-old Lawrence boy who went missing in fast-moving water near Outlet Park at Clinton Lake was found Friday morning.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Jayion Harris-Jordan was playing in water “east of the Clinton Outlet with others when he went under” on Thursday evening.

Crews searched the area until well after sunset before calling off the water rescue efforts. The search resumed Friday morning and Harris-Jordan’s body was found “not far from where he went under yesterday evening,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter.

The Douglas County sheriff won’t release any more information about the incident.

“Clinton Lake has been in the process of releasing a lot of water,” Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kristen Channel said Thursday night. “It was moving very rapidly at the time that he did go into the water.”

Water rescue crews responded to the area before 7 p.m. and searched until almost 9:30 p.m. on Thursday night before resuming the search effort Friday.

“The body of the 13-year-old has been recovered from the water. This is a very difficult time for his family and friends and our thoughts are with them,” the Douglas County Sheriff announced shortly before 10 a.m. Friday.
