Happy Birthday, Buck!

That’s what the next three days are all about on 18th and Vine.

The iconic Buck O’Neil would have turned 106 this coming Monday, November 13, and even though Buck rounded the bases and headed for home 11 years ago, his spirit is still very much a part of baseball and of Kansas City.

Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, says the party is going to be amazing.

It starts Friday night with the first ever “Rock The Vine” fashion show. Buck was always a fashion plate.

Then, on Saturday morning, you can stroll or run through the historic jazz district in the 2.2-mile walk and 5k race.

By Saturday night, it’s time for “Sax in the City” at the Gem Theater. The great Gerald Albright will keep the party going.

And Buck’s story is about more than just baseball. Like the Museum he inspired, it is about life in America.

Buck’s hold on this city was made very clear with the impact of this past Royals’ season ad that featured the voice of Buck singing Take Me Out To The Ballgame.

This weekend, we all get the chance to sing Happy Birthday to a true legend.
