OLATHE, Kan. — Olathe’s Chamber of Commerce wants to help high school students navigate the challenges inherit in becoming an adult.

The Chamber hosted a career exploration event with nearly 40 local businesses represented. Students said learning about a variety of careers helps them figure out what they want to do after graduation.

“I like hands on work,” Caleb McCall, a junior at Olathe Northwest High School, said. “I like working outside, working in the cold and the hot, and I’ve learned what places can provide that for me and what places can’t.”

Business representatives like Erica McBridge-Rapp with Allegion said they hope explaining what jobs are really like on a day-to-day basis will help students turn their interests and talents into fulfilling careers.

“I think it’s huge for young talent to know what’s out there to help them with their career path as soon as possible,” McBridge-Rapp said.
