Clay County Jail inmate dead after possible Fentanyl exposure

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Clay County Jail inmate is dead after possible exposure to the drug Fentanyl. A total of six people were treated in connection to the incident.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said three inmates began showing signs of a medical issue around 6:21 p.m. Friday night. Jail staff began C.P.R. and paramedics administered naloxone. A 36-year-old male inmate died.

The Sheriff's Office also said four staff members were exposed.

The other two inmates and four staff members are expected to recover.

The Clay County Detention Center will close the area until its been cleaned.
