If you’re unemployed and trying to find a job, sometimes it feels like the cards are stacked against you.

One Kansas City group, Connections to Success, is working to level the playing field.

CTS prepares people every step of the way, from resume help to interview training. In one of its umbrella programs, Dress for Success, it even gives people professional clothing for a good first impression.

“I don’t know where I would be without them,” said ShaVaughn Holloway.

She said she did not think she would have been successful without CTS.

Holloway’s journey started with CTS in 2013, when she found out she was pregnant and was not married.

"At the age I was, I didn’t want my mom and sister taking care of me," said Holloway.

She said she started getting help from the state and took her first class with CTS.

"By the end of my class I realized I really needed to get busy," said Holloway.

Now she said she sells Mary Kay products.

She continued to take classes, including Success is Calling, developed by TracFone. She later became a spokesperson for the company.

Holloway said she knows she can come into CTS at any time to get the support she needs.

"I can't let them see me fail either, so they’re the ones that keep me going,” said Holloway.
