Deputies: Jackson County correctional officer assaulted by inmate released from hospital

The Jackson County Sheriff PIO said Tyreik Baldwin has been cited with a county charge for assaulting a female corrections officer.

He could also face a charge from the state depending on the prosecutor's decision.

Baldwin is the same man charged in the murder of his grandfather in Blue Springs. 

A Jackson County spokeswoman said the corrections officer was treated at a local hospital and has been released. 

The date of the incident has not been released. 

"The safety and security of our staff is always our top priority," the Jackson County spokeswoman said. 

The sheriff's office is investigating the incident, officials said.
