LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — Dozens of friends, family and classmates gathered for a candlelight vigil Friday night to remember a 17-year-old and encourage each other to seek help.

Last week a single gunshot ran out at Lee’s Summit North High School. The school was evacuated and students were sent home.

Lee’s Summit Police later revealed the student had taken her own life.

“We want the youth to know that we are here for you. We are always going to be here for you, we are not going anywhere,” said Mindy Horton of Save One Life, who helped organize Friday night’s vigil.

The funeral service for the teen will take place on Saturday.
