After the Kansas City Chiefs made the playoffs the same year as the Royals, fans have the potential to witness history from inside Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs are selling tickets for the potential game, and offered them to Jackson County taxpayers first Wednesday morning.
They can go the ticket office at Arrowhead until 5 p.m. with ID and a copy of their latest property tax receipt. Tickets range in price from $60 to $320.
About 15 people were waiting inside at 9:30 a.m., a half hour before tickets went on sale.
Some folks said they thought maybe the cold weather had kept people from coming out. Others guessed that most people probably think the game won’t happen.
For the Wild Card game to be at Arrowhead, the Denver Broncos have to lose their game to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
The Chiefs have to win their game against the Oakland Raiders, winning the AFC West title, and bringing the playoff game home. Denver is 11-4, while the Chargers are 4-11.
If Denver wins, the Chiefs will play their first playoff game on the road at either Cincinnati, Houston, or Denver.
Regardless, the hope for a home game is still there.
“I think we have a pretty good shot. We’ve made our place and gotten this far,” Liz McGinley said. She was fourth in line. “Winning 10 games after losing five, that can’t be written off anywhere. I think it’s great. It’s a great opportunity for Kansas City and the Chiefs to show that we can do this.”
There’s even talk of going to the Super Bowl.
“I see them winning the Super Bowl this year,” Larry Parks said while waiting in line.
Vic Borden witnessed the Chiefs win the Super Bowl in 1970, and thinks they can do it again.
“It’ll be 46 years since Super Bowl IV, and yeah, it’d be good to go again. So I’m looking at more than just a playoff game. I’m looking deep into the playoffs and to the Super Bowl.”
If the Chiefs don’t get to play at home, all those who bought tickets will be refunded the full amount.
The general public can purchase tickets on Thursday starting at 10 a.m.
