Fourth of July is the deadliest day on American road ways according to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, and the holiday weekend is already deadly for the Kansas City metro region.
Five fatal crashes in three days. Three of them involved motorcycle accidents.
“Independence Day is by far the deadliest for motorcyclists, with an average of 26 deaths” according to the Institute, which cites some contributing factors being alcohol as well as more drivers traveling unfamiliar roads.
The Institute says 118.4 people on average lose their lives in vehicle crashes on July 4 each year.
New Years Day ranks the second deadliest day on U.S. roads.
