On the campaign trail in 2014, NBC called Greg Orman "the most interesting man in politics."
Now the former independent candidate for a Kansas U.S. Senate seat is trying something else -- writing a book.
"The book isn't about me," said Orman. "The book is about Washington D.C., the environment that we're in and things that we need to do to get Washington working again for the American people."
Orman's near-win as an independent candidate, which is rare in American politics, captured the nation's attention.
"I was trying to give a voice to millions of Americans who don't believe the Republican or Democratic party speaks to them," said Orman.
FROM 2014:
He's calling his book A Declaration of Independents, and it outlines why Orman believes the two party system is broken.
"We've gotten to a point right now where the two parties are more interested in seeing each other fail than they are in seeing the country succeed," said Orman.
Orman believes Americans' disgruntlement with the parties, leads many of them to support Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders in the presidential election.
"They're gravitating to unconventional choices," said Orman. "They're saying the Washington establishment hasn't been working for us, so we need alternatives."
Could Orman one day be the alternative himself?
Although he isn't ruling anything out, he said right now he's more interested in writing than running for office again.
A Declaration of Independents goes on sale on May 3.
