Grandview homeowners pick up after second round of flooding

Posted

GRANDVIEW, Mo. — It hasn’t even been a month and some residents in the Grandview, Missouri community are still cleaning up from the last flood.

On Merrywood Circle, Jesse Pitts, along with his neighbors, said he’s had enough.

“We've been here for quite a while and this is the worst we've ever seen it,” Pitts said.

Pitts has lived in his home for more than two decades and said the clean up has been a repeat of what he did just a few weeks ago.

“We'll probably have electricians come back in again and see if there's any wiring damage because all the plugs were flooded and damaged again,” Pitts said.

With more than $20,000 in damages from the July 27th flood, he said moving is now his next choice.

“Without a doubt,” Pitts said. “I don't think we can survive two of these or even another one if it happens again in another week or two....we're not going to make it, we're going to have to go somewhere else.”

With a déjà vu of events, Grandview Fire Chief Ron Graham says city officials will be heading back assessing more damage.

“I don't think it's a drainage issue, or flood gates I think it's just seven inches of rain in just a few hours,” Graham said.

Right now, it’s uncertain whether or not federal assistance will happen.

“We didn't meet the threshold for federal assistance, and I probably don't think we're going to meet it this time because again, they look at the whole metro area, so maybe we will,” Graham said. “One of the first calls we made this morning was to Jackson County Emergency Preparedness.

The city stated it has put together a damage team and will be there assessing damage and providing assistance throughout the day.
