The daughter of a man killed in a drive-by shooting says her father was an innocent bystander and now she wants justice.

Chiquita Wash is struggling to cope with the loss of the man that raised her, 62-year-old Gary Cutchlow.

"He wasn't at the wrong place, but he was here at the wrong time,” Wash said.

On Monday, Cutchlow was visiting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Wash's house on South Benton Avenue near 33rd Street.

"He was just family oriented, life of the party, all he wanted was fish-fry, barbecue or something,” Wash said.

During his visit Monday, Cutchlow gave his grandchildren some advice.

“‘Stay out of trouble, do something, do your dream, do what you want to do, y'all are growing up, I'm getting older,’” Wash said.

Around 6:30 p.m., Cutchlow stepped out to the front lawn to play with his 4- and 2-year-old great-grandchildren. That's when police say someone drove by the house and unloaded a barrage of bullets.

One of those bullets struck and killed Cutchlow, another wounded a family friend and the rest pierced the house.

"This is a senseless, pointless crime,” Wash said. “I couldn't see why somebody would do that to him.”

Despite that the shooting occurred on a busy avenue before sunset, the KC Crimestoppers hotline tells 41 Action News they haven't received any tips on the case. His daughter is pleading for the public’s help.

"I want justice. I don't care who they are, how old they are, I want justice,” Wash said.

A vigil is planned for later this week.

If you have any information regarding this drive-by shooting, call KC Crimestoppers at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
