KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Illinois woman who put her daughter up for adoption more than four decades ago reunited with her child this weekend in Kansas City, Missouri.
Debbie Borries, of Effingham, Illinois, said she didn’t know anything about her daughter, Wendy Newburgh.
“I didn't want to know anything that would ruin her future,” Borries said. “I wanted her to have a good life because I was very young and I didn't have the skills to raise her.”
But a few weeks ago, Newburgh, of Kansas City, found her birth mother, and they have been talking non-stop, sometimes for hours at a time. They finally met in person today.
“It is a good thing,” Newburgh said, “and it’s great that I'm just like her because you know, I'm fabulous and she's fabulous, so it’s great. It’s a great thing.”
They plan to arrange more trips to visit each other, but celebrated today with a baby shower that Borries never got to have.
