Independence driver killed standing in road near Clinton

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Independence driver was killed near Clinton, Missouri, when they were struck while standing outside their vehicle early Monday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened just before 4 a.m. on Missouri Route 7 just west of Missouri Route 13's north junction.

Investigators said the driver was standing in the roadway outside of their vehicle, which was pulled onto the shoulder.

A semi passing by first hit the driver's side door, which was open, then hit the driver.

They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver was identified as 49-year-old Raymond Conners.
