KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Independence man was charged Friday with second-degree murder for a botched burglary that resulted in another man's death.

Richard D. Saettone II, 39, faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of second-degree burglary.

According to court documents, Saettone and another man were attempting to rob an apartment in the 1200 block of South Scott Avenue in Independence on Sept. 22 of this year.

The resident of the apartment announced he had a gun when he heard suspicious noises. He ended up firing a shot at the man who busted down his door, leaving and calling police.

Police found Robert Shinneman dead on the floor of the apartment with a gun next to him and a ski mask over his face.

Court documents state that the robbery was drug related.

A source identified Saettone as being involved in the botched burglary, leading to his arrest in December where he confessed to being involved.
