KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dozens of volunteers with Church of the Resurrection's Downtown campus are playing Santa's elves.

They wrapped up more than 280 joy boxes for local students.

"I think it's just a very joyful thing for them to know that there are people that love them and care for them and want them to have something a little special at this time of year," volunteer Sally Smith said.

The boxes will be delivered to students at Wendell Phillips Elementary School on Friday.

Each box includes a hat, gloves, toys and hygiene items.
