KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Kansas City metro area.
The advisory will be in effect from 9 a.m. Wednesday to midnight Thursday.
The storm is expected to begin with snow Wednesday morning and change to a mixture of rain and snow by the afternoon.
“Sufficient” snowfall is expected Wednesday night, according to the NWS, however the anticipated totals are low due to temperatures also expected to be above freezing.
Snow accumulations of 1” to 3” are expected across portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central, north central and west central Missouri.
Conditions could affect the evening commute, according to the NWS.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Missouri Department of Transportation and KCMO city officials said that crews would be ready to treat the roads.
A spokesperson for MoDOT said that crews would be in at 5 a.m. Wednesday to begin treating or plowing roads, bridges and highways. Around 200 trucks will be on the roads, and crews will work in 12-hour shifts.
A bridge frost crew will treat overpasses and elevated surfaces in KCMO on Tuesday night, according to the city. Residential crews will go out as needed to clear paths on neighborhood streets and treat hills, curves and intersections.
The affected areas include Lafayette, Jackson, Leavenworth, Macon, Randolph, Clay, Howard, Platte, Johnson, Chariton, Ray, Wyandotte, Carroll, Cooper and Saline.
