Good morning bloggers,

Are you ready for some more snow? We have good news and bad news today. The good news is that spring is just a little more than a month away, and with this weather pattern we are in, we are seeing some big warm ups in the forecast in this next month as spring approaches. The bad news is that there will be a roller-coaster ride of temperatures and there is one big drop heading out way.

Yes, this forecast is correct. Our weather team at 41 Action News is predicting a drop to near 0 degrees by Friday morning and it may be as close as 3 degrees by Thursday morning. The temperatures will drop to these levels if we have around 1" or more of snow on the ground, and this is what we are forecasting. Lindsey Anderson, our morning meteorologist, just showed this 3 degree forecast and we are predicting snow to move in before noon on Wednesday.

The temperatures will likely be just above freezing as the snow starts falling Wednesday. This will lead to the first inch of snow to mostly melt on the roads, and some accumulation will begin on grassy surfaces. It will be a slushy wet snow.

As we move through Wednesday, we are forecasting the snow to increase and become wide spread over the Kansas City region. And, the snow may become heavy at times. If the heavier snow develops, then temperatures will drop to near 32 degrees. By the Wednesday evening rush hours, there may be some slushy roads to contend with, but again, with temperatures above freezing most of the day, the snow will more likely accumulate on grassy and elevated surfaces first.

A Cold Blast & Possible Flash Freezing Wednesday Night!

Arctic air will be blasting south, and this cold air will be arriving after midnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This is when the temperartures will drop into the single digits. Since we are forecasting 1 to 4 inches of snow in the area, any melting snow and wet conditions will likely "flash freeze", or freeze very fast. This would cause more significant travel problems for the early morning rush hour on Thursdayl

Snowfall forecast:

Our snowfall forecast is for around 1" to 4" to fall near KC. The overnight data is consistent with what I showed last night at 10 PM. We will continue monitoring the new data and update this forecast between now and the 10 PM newscast tonight. So, try to catch one of our newscasts on 41 Action News, but remember we are on 24-7 on KSHB.com and we will keep you advised!

Kansas City Weather Timeline:

  • Today: Periods of clouds, mixed with sun. High: 43°
  • Tonight: Cloudy with a chance of snow by the morning rush hour. Low: 35°
  • Wednesday: A 100% chance of snow. Temperatures staying near or above 32° with most of the snow accumulation on grassy and elevated surfaces.
  • Wednesday night - Thursday: A cold blast arrives with flash freezing possible. Temperatures will crash to near by morning. Slick conditions are likely. The snow will end with 1 to 4 inches possible.

Back to the good news. A big warm up will be quickly moving back in this weekend as this roller-coaster ride of temperatures and weather continues. Have a great day!
