Kansas City police are investigating an armed robbery and gunshots that occurred in the West Plaza neighborhood on Tuesday.

“We saw all the lights and just assumed that maybe someone just hit someone's car,” said resident Olivia Morgan, who has lived on Jarboe Street since last fall.

Kansas City police said they were alerted to a man running through the neighborhood with a rifle on Tuesday evening. A neighbor reported hearing gunshots and noticing a bullet hole on the front of a home near 49th Street and Jarboe Avenue. Another man called police and said he was beaten and robbed shortly after pulling into his driveway. Two suspects got away with his car, cellphone and wallet.

Resident Sara Burton, who also lives on Jarboe Avenue, said crime is not typically a concern for her. “We walk to the Plaza all the time, and when it's dark. You never think about someone coming up to you and trying to rob you or shoot you, at all.”
