KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This week at Holliday Montessori, Principal KaLinda Bass-Barlow received some pretty exciting news.
“I was like 'Who me, you have the right person?'” Bass-Barlow said.
She will now serve on the USA Board of Directors for the Association of Montessori Internationale.
“We will come together quarterly to meet and discuss plans for the organizations and that being Montessori across the United States and looking at initiatives,” Bass-Barlow said.
Through this organization, this Kansas City principal will represent Montessori educational efforts across the nation, which focuses on hands-on learning.
“I think that's the part I'm most excited about: advocating and sharing with others is how to effectively implement a public Montessori school and yet be able to tend to all of the things that are required by the state,” Bass-Barlow said.
She’ll be looking at ways of bringing more Montessori into public schools around the nation.
“It's one of the best methods,” Bass-Barlow said. “It's new. It's been around so hoping to be that voice for public schools and understand that Montessori is the way to go.”
Bass-Barlow said she will still maintain her position at Holliday as she takes on her new role, which begins in July.
